497 controller locked up -help

Posted in

I just started using the time is motion software. At first, I upgraded the firmware and had descent control. Then I started running the unit at a visible speed. After running some tests, I began to get erratic behavior. The horizontal axis would begin to run, then stop. While it was stopped, the vertical axis would run, stop and go back to the horizontal. It couldn't do both simultaneously.

Thinking it the firmware might be corrupt, I upgraded the software again. It then would respond normally (I think). In the middle of the run, I just stopped and the hand control displayed the red with no text. Thinking it maybe have corrupted again, I tried to update it but the AutoStar software lost all communication to the handset.

My first question: is there a hard reset for the hand control. Can I get it to respond so I can upgrade the firmware again? Does anyone have a solution for me?

Frustrated in Brooklyn :)

There are two things that can

milapse's picture

There are two things that can cause this A. you've set the speed to go faster than the head can go or B. you've set the acceleration to tight resulting in not enough time for the commands to successfully transfer. If you have any issues the first thing to do is reset the handset... press mode then arrow down until you see the 'reset' command.

If you did in fact loose communication during the firmware update... I honestly don't know what the solution is! You may want to go to cloudynights and ask the astronomers over there if there is a solution to a broken communication during the firmware update...

New to Form/Same Problem.....Lockup

I'm not sure what happened, but is there a way to reset the 493?
I was connected, was downloading Milapse, then everything froze.
Now nothing seems to work and I can't re-set.

The Autostar program doesn't even recognize the unit anymore on
Com Port 4.

Thanks, any help will be appreciated.
