ALT 5V and ALT GND?

Posted in

Hi,

I'm currently in the process of building a simple low-cost dolly and want to try the openmoco system instead of (badly) re-inventing the wheel.

Most of the schematic is pretty clear to my untrained eye, but i was wondering what the "ALT 5V and ALT GND" are for?

ALT Output

Hi there! I really do hope that OpenMoco will work for your needs. (it should, of course! =)

The ALT 5V and ALT GND are if you intend to use an alternate input/output control (i.e. flash, second camera, etc.) if you're using an alternate input (say, a motion sensor) - send 5V to ALT 5V (making sure to hook up GND to the ground plane) to trip the ALT IN trigger. Otherwise, if you wish to trigger an external device before/after a camera or motor action, use the pin labeled ALT 5V as your positive trigger. That is, if you're hooking up a second camera, you can use another optoisolator, and use Alt +5V like pin 10 is used for the camera shutter.

Another note: I need to update the schematic, but delete the diodes from the motor control pins, I've found they create more problems than I'd like.

thanks for the reply. I'll post some links/pictures when everything comes together.
