Available in parts?

...and by that I mean where to start this post lol.

I have so many thoughts running through my mind it's driving me crazy!

Obviously I'm like 90% of the people who read this site. I want a cheap dolly system and I'm prepared to do almost all of the work to make it even cheaper than buying the whole kit from Dynamic Perception.

My question is however - will the kit be available in parts? Like could we possibly purchase just the MX2? Or could we get the camera cradle but not the rail (with the motor of course)?

I have many other questions but I feel they may be better addressed in other parts of this forum.

Any information would be fantastic.

Regards,

- Matt.

Matt, Yes, everything will be

Matt,

Yes, everything will be available as individual components, and kits without the rail will be available. Mind you, as at least one person found out on timescapes - if you build the entire thing from scratch, it actually costs the same, if not more =) But, buying the kit without the rail will be less expensive, mostly because it's so expensive for us to handle the rails.

Hey thanks for the

Hey thanks for the reply...that is good news. As I live in Australia it may be cheaper for me to procure some of the larger parts (namely the rail) locally instead of having such a bulky item shipped here.

I've gone through and done a fair bit of costing, but I will be waiting until an official announcement is made regarding the system before I go ahead with anything.

Better safe than sorry ;-)

Yeah, there is an Australian

Yeah, there is an Australian 8020 distributor, and they sell all the same parts - so definitely cheaper to get the 1030 extrusion (rail) locally. We'll be offering kits with and without rails (cheaper as a kit than buying each part individually =) for those people that face high shipping costs, or prefer to just source it themselves.

We'll be offering the kit w/o rail (that's everything from belts to clips to electronics, just no 1030) at a substantially lower price, due to the labor involved with handling the rails, and the price to anodize them, of course.

Oh that's awesome news...I'll

Oh that's awesome news...I'll start looking around now no doubt (cause you know, works not important lol).

I take it kits may be self build or would parts like the MX2 come pre-built? I'm probably asking too much no doubt. Obviously you couldn't offer every single possible configuration that people request. As mentioned I can build the device myself - I'm just curious as I only found OpenMoCo a few days ago and haven't been able to drag myself away since :-(

Hehe, no problem, I like

Hehe, no problem, I like answering questions =)

The hardware will largely come with "some assembly required" for mechanical stuff. Think tightening some bolts and lining stuff up - Ikea-level work.

The MX2/Dollyshield will be available either assembled, or as a solder-your-self kit. The latter being of a substantially lower price, of course =)
