OpenMoco rotary stage

Posted in

I'm in the market for a rotary stage and saw the post for the laser cut acrylic rig.
any chance I could buy one from you?

Also, I'm a professional-level software engineer and planning to write some code in VB.NET for moco, which I'd be happy to open source here on openmoco...but kind of need the rotary table in order to really jump in to the coding.

I'd be very happy if I could purchase your hardware solution at the earliest convenience.

I have done object movies

I have done object movies using a motion control system I built using Kuper (moco system used on movies). My rotator I used a machinist turntable I had laying around and it worked really well. I just used a size 34 stepper directly driving the turntable, I did this since most machine turntables are geared at 40-1. I bought a used Kuper card and built a PC and interface box and put together the driver boxes using Gecko drivers. Not very portable but works for studio shooting. I am very happy I found this site so I can build an ultra portable rig for time lapse. Noodling over design for the past week or so I have come up with something that work for me.

Hey Max! Welcome and glad to

Hey Max! Welcome and glad to have you here.

I think RCFisher is correct, the fastest way to get started is by picking this kit up and picking up an easy-driver or gecko:

Hopefully in the next few months we'll have a kit solution that will be much more portable and ready for pan/tilt and giga-pano use.

Max, the design I posted on

Max, the design I posted on here isn't really ready for purchase yet, you'd be sorely upset if you bought it *grin* (It has some major issues that we're still working out). But, there are a lot of options - including the rotary stage Milapse posted above (in fact, this rotary stage has been used in countless timelapse applications -- it's just more than a little heavy, and a little clunky =)

What's your budget range for a two-axis system? Less than a thousand, one-two thousand? Knowing that, we can point you to a ready-to-buy system that will work with the OpenMoco Engine.

Hey Fisher, You mind if I ask

Hey Fisher,
You mind if I ask how much you paid for for your Kuper Card?

Thanks,
Dave.

I think I paid $500 for the

I think I paid $500 for the Kuper card but it was not the current card so I had to use older software that didn't have a lot of current features. This was also 2003 or 04 I think, a lot of guys were getting out of movie moco so there was a glut of older gear. Still works fine for my use. I may build a OpenMoco system to run my turntable it would be soooooo much smaller than my current rig.
