Hello from Jacksonville, Florida...

Hi, kids!

I am just recently getting into timelapse photography, and I have my eyes set on getting into the full-bore motion control as well. I am doing some experiments now with the standard digital intervalometer for my Canon 60D, but I'm running into limitations with it. Digging around has brought me here, but I'm feeling way out of my depth...

The problems I'm running into:
- Minimum shot interval is 1 second -- is it possible to get below this? 2 or 3 frames per second would be ideal for one of my subjects, but all of the packaged units set the lower limit to 1 second.
- Maximum number of shots is ~400. This forces me to hover around the camera and try and restart it without missing any frames...

I'm imagining that something like an Arduino-based timer would help me to solve these problems, but I am no hardware hacker (I don't even own a soldering iron anymore) -- am I expecting too much of these tools, am I barking up the right tree? Is there any way to get a finished or near-finished product to work with, so I can focus on the photography and less on the fiddly bits?

Hi Obreal, There are a lot of

Hi Obreal,

There are a lot of intervalometers out there which can do what you're looking to do. PClix is one, amongst others. If you're looking to eventually get into a motion control system, you could do something like the MX2, which will allow you to add DC motors later, but does cost more than a PCLix, and is not nearly as compact.

Of course, making your own intervalometer around an arduino is pretty simple, and fun - IMO. *grin* There's a tutorial on doing that here: http://openmoco.org/node/88

Thanks for the reply! This is one of my first attempts, showing the subject matter that I need to shoot at a higher frequency (the guy in the upper left looks kinda ODD...): http://vimeo.com/28597062

I've looked into the PClix remote, and that definitely does what I want, but it's a bit more expensive that I'd hoped. Mebbe that will be the impetus I need to bust out my soldering iron...LOL.
